Vernice Miller is an international theatre artist whose commitment to the investigation of the soul of the actor is perpetual. She is an educator, writer, director and award winning actor who resides in New York City. Along with Godfrey L. Simmons, Jr., Vernice is the Founder/Artistic Director of The Hansberry Project, an emerging theatre company devoted to new and obscure plays that appertain to people of color, and whose mission is to provide an artistic home in New York City for theatre artists of color. The Hansberry Project is a resident company of the Lark Theater Company. Among others, Vernice has trained with Ryszard Cieslack, Jacques Chwat, and Jerzy Grotowski of the Polish Laboratory Theater. She has been most influenced by the work of Roberta Carreri of the Odin Teatret, Denmark and that of Maggie Flannigan in New York. Vernice travels and teaches a rigorous actor training workshop to university students under the umbrella of her company ALAT, A Laboratory for Actor Training. She is a member of Women's Project & Productions Directors Forum, The Lark Theatre Company, Ensemble Studio Theatre's Going to the River Festival and Titans Theatre Company. Vernice will be directing Variation on a Theme of Blackness, an honors thesis project performed by Audrey Pernell.
